Types of Bike Trailers
Bike trailers are designed for different purposes. Generally, there are two types of bike trailers based on the number of wheels that they have. Each of the types has their own characteristics which make them suitable for the purpose they are made for.
Single wheel bike trailers are trailers having only one wheel. This type of trailer has a limited towing capacity usually carrying only light to medium loads of up to 35 kilograms. This type is great for trail riding or narrow riding surfaces. People who regularly bike up mountains usually use this type of trailer. It is relatively stable when turning at high turns.
Two wheel bike trailers are trailers that have two wheels and have a more stable platform. This type of trailer can carry a heavier load compared to the single wheel trailer. The weight of your cargo is distributed between the trailers wheels, freeing you bike of extra burden. When making sharp or high speed turns this trailer tends to tip over so extra care must be made when maneuvering turns.
These are the two popular types of bike trailers being sold in the market today. Some custom made trailers are multi-wheeled and have a specific use.
